Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew

Monday, October 15th, 2007

What a great gig. The Tripod swelled to accomodate music fans of ages eager to hear Kevin Drew’s solo material. Backed by fellow BSS members Brendan Canning and Justin Peroff and abetted by Andrew Kenny (American Analog Set), Bill Priddle (Treble Charge), Sam Goldberg (Uncut) - Kevin Drew wowed the crowds with his new songs, old favourites from BSS and even an anthemic rendition of U2’s ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’.

Here’s a few pics I managed to snag.

Thanks to All for Dublin Tweetup 2

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Many thanks to everyone that came along to the Dublin Tweetup 2 on Thursday evening last. It was great to see everyone in the flesh. We even had a few tag along that weren’t down on the list. The food at Hop House was sublime, and I’m thinking of going back there real soon.

Here’s the name call thread from Jaiku. And some photos from Damian and Elly (oh, and there’s a snap of Elly and Maryrose with Charley Boorman too).

Looking forward to Tweetup 3 already. Early thinking is that we can organise this to fall on a weekend, so that people from outside Dublin can come along too. There’s even whispers of karaoke.

Nice to see Doris Lessing win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Ego-free on receiving the award and a writer confident in her own skills. British media is celebrating her as the first British female to win the award, I say celebrate her metamorphic style.

Damien muses on a new twist to the Pound Shop phenomenon - ‘cept this time it’s in Twenties.

Elly and Maryrose go off to meet Charley Boorman.

Update on Microsoft Office 2008 For Mac

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

I’m glad to read the latest news that the MacBU team are now in the ZBB (Zero Bug Bounce) phase of the Office 2008 for Mac project.

ZBB is a flat out period where the product is being tested continually where bugs that meet the justification threshold are triaged and fixed. The aim is cut product bugs more than a week old, and reduce the bug churn to zero. It’s also a sure sign that the Mac team are confident that the suite is market-worthy and that RTM is just around the corner.

As I’m considering a MacBook Pro as my next laptop, the news that Office 2008 is nearing RTM is exciting.

Parking outside the IFI. Love the way us common people are flocking for a look-see.

Neat coverage of the cute Nissan Pivo 2. I’m not the biggest environmentalist, but I like any gadget that helps to cut the carbon footprint of daily life. Plus, in a superficial kind of way, it has cute curves that girls like. Look at the success of the Ford Ka!

A Red Link to celebrate surviving the trials of nature. Patrixmc, a good friend of mine, has just come back from climbing Kilimanjaro. He has just started a blog and is posting a blow-by-blow account of his climb, replete with photos.

How to make Skittle Vodka. I kid you not. We’re having a Hallowe’en Party and are going to make it along with scary punch.
